2017 Hall of Fame Induction

The twelfth annual Newark High School Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place on Friday, January 6th, 2017. The Hall of Fame committee and the Newark High School Sports Boosters would like to congratulate the 2017 Newark Sports Hall of Fame inductee:

Sam Akre Anderson, Athlete
Sam graduated in 2009, was a four year starter in volleyball and basketball and earned nine varsity letters in basketball, volleyball, and softball. She is sixth in all time scoring for girls basketball at Newark with 1,163 points. As a junior she was selected as Chicago Sun Times 1A All-State and was a key member of the 2008 basketball team that finished second in state. She holds the school volleyball record with 359 kills in a season and 663 kills in her career. She also holds the volleyball record of 101 blocks in a season when her volleyball team set a school record for wins at 32-3. Her high school teams earned three conference championships and seven regional championships. She continued her volleyball career at Olivet Nazerene University. Sam currently coaches freshmen volleyball and serves as assistant softball coach at Newark High School.
